It was a quiet Monday and I thought we were not going out on that day. Since it’s Memorial Day (US holiday) I didn’t hear any plans from my dear husband. When my darling daughter asked for some string cheese, I grabbed and gave her a couple from the fridge. Then I saw this coupon at the back of the package. The coupon says $20 for 100 tokens and $19.99 for a medium sized pizza, 2 drinks, and 40 tokens all valid until 12-31-14. I thought, wow! So I showed the coupon to my husband and told him we should take our DD to Chuck E. Cheese’s some time. DD has been asking when can we go back to CEC again. When my hubby saw the coupon he said it wasn’t bad. And he asked me if I want to visit the Ham Orchards in Terrell. “Sure, honey. That would be great!” “Then we’ll go to Chuck E. Cheese after,” he said.
So the Memorial Day holiday wasn’t about staying at home after all. We got to go somewhere and did something together.
My dear husband told me about me about Ham Orchards but I only remembered a little. What retained in my mind was their peach ice cream is said to be delicious. So we visited the place and tried their peach ice cream. And i tell you what, it’s so yummy! I ate all what’s in my cup.
I thought we will be able to pick some peaches but one of the staff said that they don’t allow individual’s picking peaches. What they allow is picking blackberries. But the picking won’t start until mid-June or July. I thought we could do it on that day.
The house you see is the owner’s house. My dear husband said that he bought a couple of peach trees at Ham Orchards few years ago. And the owner taught him how to grow and care for the trees. But hubby planted his peach trees in the backyard where the water settles after the rain. Peach trees don’t like super wet soil. Unfortunately, hubby’s peach trees died.
Besides homemade ice cream, various produce are also for sale at Ham Orchards. Strawberries, blueberries, cherries, tomatoes, bell peppers, green veggies, and of course peaches. There are also preserves for sale. They are placed in jars. Peach pies and other pastries area also available.
After eating ice cream, looking around the store, and walking through the blackberry patch, we head on to Chuck E. Cheese to let DD play and have fun for a little while. We availed the 100 tokens for $20 from the coupon. That was a lot of tokens. I helped DD with those. 🙂 I played a few games to help her earn tickets for a reward.
And that’s how our Memorial Day was spent. We had so much fun together and got to visit and experience Ham Orchards.
