Snow Sledding Didn’t Happen

Thick snow in my backyard.

Thick snow in my backyard.

Last weekend I told you about snow fall here in North Texas and how I wanted to do snow sledding.  Well, today we had a pretty good snow fall overnight.  It’s because of the winter storm.  At first it was ice and sleet then when the temperature reached few degrees below freezing, the freezing rain and turned into snow.

I was the one who got a little excited about it.  Honestly, I wasn’t able to sleep until 3:00 A.M.  I was watching my favorite comedy show on television then looking out the window to see the snow. The gusty wind was blowing like crazy.  It’s super duper cold.

I woke up early and it was so bright and white all over – still and quite.  I thought there was a message from my husband’s office that no office today.  But nope.  He went to work today.  He said that it was difficult backing up in the driveway this morning.  The snow was so think that he was very careful backing up so he won’t go in the ditch.  He took my car because it has better front brakes.

Well, the snow sledding didn’t go through because my daughter got up late in the afternoon.  She wanted to play snow fight and build a snowman.  So that’s what we did for a couple of hours outside today. 🙂

There Is Not Much Snow For Us To Go Snow Sledding

So we got some snow today from the winter storm.  I think we got probably about 2 inches of snow here in our area in North Texas.  I was very happy to see it was snowing this morning.  As usual, my daughter slept in late so we didn’t go out to play in the snow until around 2:00 P.M.

I asked my hubby it’s okay to go sledding in the backyard.  He said there is not much snow.  It will just create mud puddles all over the place.  If the snow is deeper, then snow sledding would be a great activity today.  Texas only gets snow once in a while only that a deep accumulation of snow on the ground is unlikely.  Up North it snows most of the time that snow sledding has become a recreation.

But my daughter and I still went outside to play in the snow and built a small snowman. Actually, she wanted to call it snowgirl because she said it’s a girl.

So here’s our front yard.  The road wasn’t even covered with snow.  It is because cars come and go once in a while that friction causes heat and it warms up the road.  Am I right? 🙂

Well, we will be stuck in the house for a couple of days or so I guess.  In this freezing temperature, we don’t want to catch a cold.

Don’t Drive On Icy Road

We are stuck home today.  Winter storm has struck and parts of Texas are icy.  Actually I am hoping for a bit of snow storm so we can go out and play in the snow. Traveling is out of the plan because the roads have sleet.  We already saw a wreck right across the road where we live.  Ugh.

So hubby has a three-day weekend. There is no office today and schools are closed.  We lit up the fireplace to keep the house warm and comfortable.  On cold weather like this, we try to reduce the work of the air-conditioner to save electricity and at least to lower the electric bill.

Anyway, in this low temperature the ice won’t thaw out quickly.  But the ice on the roads will thaw and dry up fast.  Hubby will go to work tomorrow for sure. He is going to drive my car because it has good front brakes.  His truck is giving him problems lately.  We took it to the local auto repair shop few weeks ago for maintenance.  Ten-year old Chevy truck is now weakening.  As of now, we don’t risk driving it on long distance travels especially out-of-States.

I hope everyone is staying warm.  If you are traveling, be very very careful on the road.

Safety First On Icy Weather

Driving on icy  roads is not recommended unless you are capable of doing so and brave to be on the road on such condition.  I will say that if it’s not very important, better stay home and let the ice melt completely before heading to your destinations.

We were forced to go to town yesterday because we had to find firewood for our fireplace.  The power went out for 9 hours.  The temperature dropped and it was freaking cold.  Well, it’s a winter storm so…From 6:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., it’s was a long wait for the power to resume.  Thankfully we found a firewood seller in town.  We paid $20 for a huge pile.  We lit our fireplace for the very first time in years whole day yesterday and we still have some left in the garage.

It’s dangerous to drive on ice especially on bridges.  So be very careful and watchful if you’re going somewhere.  But might as well stay home.  Safety first.
