San Francisco is a beautiful city to explore, and there are so many diverse ways to experience the sights. Getting some exercise is an excellent way to get about the city. Leave your downtown San Francisco hotel and get out in the sunshine to burn a few calories and see the city differently.
Cycle across Golden Gate Bridge
Pick up a bike from Pier 39 and head out past Fisherman’s Wharf, along the marina and across the famous Golden Gate Bridge. The views are amazing and you’ll enjoy cycling around the Bay. If you’re feeling really ambitious, head across Golden Gate and continue to Sausalito. After a snack in Sausalito, load your bike on the ferry back to Pier 39.
Start the day with T’ai Chi
Wake up early and head over to Washington Square in the North Beach area for some Tai Chi. Join in an informal, impromptu session with the locals, which will get your chi flowing for a day of sightseeing. Chinatown is close by, so a dumpling breakfast is a natural next step.
Segway through Golden Gate Park
Golden Gate Park is a lovely place to walk, but you can also have fun with a Segway tour. You’ll steer your way past the San Francisco Botanical Gardens, the de Young, and the Academy of Sciences. The sports facilities may tempt you to continue your day playing frisbee golf, soccer, or fishing.
Hike the Presidio
With 25 miles of hiking trails, the Presidio is the perfect place to get outdoors. Start at the Lombard Gate and take the 2.2 mile Presidio Promenade for views of Marin, San Francisco Bay, and Crissy Field. Other great places to hike are along the shoreline at Lands End.
See San Francisco from the water
One of the best ways to spot wildlife in the San Francisco Bay area is to take a kayaking tour. You’ll get some basic instruction and some exercise in the deal. There are tours around Sausalito, McCovey Cove, or others in the Bay Area that are popular with families.
