In-Store Visit Not Impressed

My girl friends and I went to Plano yesterday to check Nordstrom Rack located on Preston Road. We have been wanting to visit the place. We planned the trip since Monday but some important matter arose. Anyway, we finally get to the store. We looked around and checked their apparel, shoes, accessories, and cosmetics for sale. Their ad says they sell discounted prices on the merchandise on clearance. But most of the items on clearance are still pricey. I wasn’t impressed. The location is great but inside the store, to me, is not quite organized.

You have to spend a lot of time browsing each aisle or department if you want to find the cheap merchandise you want.

Keeping Secured

It has been a wonderful day at work today. We are having an extra discount on permanently reduced priced merchandise. Customers came, shopped here and there. I went to lunch late because we were very busy at the customer service department. I brought my lunch and, as usual, I headed to the break room. I saw two lockers standing close to the snacks vending machine. There was a note saying that the lockers will be replaced next week. I wonder where did the other associates put their bags. Hmm..none of my business.

Using a locker is safe because you can keep your things while working in the store. You do not have to worry about your belongings’ security. Besides retail companies, educational institutions also have a safe place for their employees’ or students personal belongings. School lockers are very convenient for the students. I never used a school locker before because I have had to pay 🙂 I did not like it. And my school just had wooden lockers. But the wooden locker was durable though.

At my work today, we have steel lockers. I did not use one because I do not want to go in and out of the break room. We just have our purses kept in the gift wrap section at the back of the customer service area.

Credits and Rewards

Working in retail needs patience and good public relations or PR. If you do not have the patience, you will easily get irritated with arrogant customers. And if you lack PR, you will not get enough sales for the merchandise you are selling or worse, none at all. Sales people are persistent too. They do not give up until the sales goal is achieved. And when they do, credits and rewards are given to their account.

Employees need to be rewarded for their effort and loyalty in companies they are working in. In this way, they will get more motivated to work harder for the benefit of both parties. Like what Teresa C. said in her article entitled ‘It Is Really Important To Reward Employees’,

“Employees respond well to incentives for good performance and to recognition for doing especially good work. Employers should not ever forget this if they want great performance from their employees. “

She has a good point. Employees and ordinary workers get more motivated when they receive incentives or appreciation for the job well done. Teresa has emphasized that these incentives are not necessary expensive. Bonus, plaque of recognition, or employee performance credits in the 201 file, are good example of practical incentives. Many companies go for bonuses since employees need financial means for their families. Teresa C.’s article opens our minds to reward employees’ hard work whatever field they are in. And sales employees deserve it too.
