We finally went on a road trip on Memorial Day weekend. We drove back to Oklahoma to spend a couple of days in Broken Bow and visited Beavers State Park. It has been a family tradition every year. We love the place more and more every time we visit.
This visit was mostly to do exploring and hiking along the river. Because it’s the start of the Summer Break, there are so many visitors to the lake. We couldn’t even find a parking spot close to the swimming areas. So we just enjoyed the cold water at the spillway.
It’s always fun to explore especially when you are with family and friends. You build strong bond together sharing stories that bring happiness to your soul.
We’re all aware that travel situations are not gonna be the same. Always be cautious and keep your health and safety a priority.
As part of our wedding anniversary celebration, my dear husband and I were talking about going to the Beavers Bend State Park in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. It has become a tradition for us to visit the park and have a relaxing time even if it’s only a few days whenever we are celebrating a special occasion, holiday, or a school break.
We always stay at Hi-Way Inn along Hwy 259 in Broken Bow. The hotel is very close to the main stores and restaurants. Also, a casino is right across it. When my DH and I agree on a schedule, we take turns to go to the casino.
We had a long weekend last month so we went on a road trip to Broken Bow. It was a beautiful day on our way there on a Friday but the next day was rainy. Even though it was a wet day, it didn’t stop us from having fun.
After checking in the hotel, we drove around Beavers Bend State Park like we always do. Our darling daughter enjoys looking around. We were looking forward to seeing some deer but no luck. As we go along, a patrolling sheriff pulled us over. Why? He saw DD was standing and her head was out the roof of the car. We did not see where he came from but he suddenly showed up behind us with his patrol lights on. He didn’t give us a ticket (thank goodness!). He just reminded us about child’s safety and the child should be on the car seat and buckled. Lesson learned. On our way back to the hotel, we stopped at Pizza Hut Broken Bow for dinner.
Travel Tip: When traveling with kids, keep them on seat belts. It is for their safety.
This is the first Spring Break ever and we had a great time. Our favorite getaway place, Beaver’s Bend State Park in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, was as relaxing and peaceful as ever. We have been here a few times in the previous years and I can say this is a great place if you need to be just with yourself or with your family enjoying the serenity of nature away from the busy life in the big city.
Here are few things you can do at Beaver’s Bend State Park:
Hiking – There are hiking trails all over the state park.
We enjoy hiking. Besides being a good exercise, hiking gives you feeling of achievement. Once you reach the top of the hill, it feels amazing. Climbing down the hill feels more tiresome because you are using different muscles. Overall, it’s an awesome hobby.
Camping – Beaver’s Bend State Park in Oklahoma is also a great place to camp. There are family-friend and pet-friendly camping grounds in the park.
We drove around and saw campers in their tents and camper vans. Since it is Spring Break, we saw group of young campers in the area. My family haven’t tried camping yet because of personal reasons. Hopefully we will be able to camp here in the future.
Camping needs a lot of preparation. You have to have a very well-made and durable camping tent. Camping is fun, too. Remember, there is no cellphone signal in the woods so you can only use data on your mobile phones. On the other hand, there are areas in the park where cell signals are very limited.
Fishing – Yes, you can do fishing in the river at Beaver’s Bend State Park. Bring your fishing gear and unexpired fishing license or fishing permit and you are good to catch rainbow trouts and other trouts.
We would love to go fishing in the future. We just have to work on my darling daughter’s patience. 🙂 For now, we just enjoy soaking our feet in the ice cold water in the river.
DO NOT FORGET: If you hear the siren, get off the water immediately because the water level in the river will rise quickly when they release water from the dam. 🙂
