I was very happy that my family and I were able to visit my parents, siblings, nieces, nephews last year and had long vacation. It was totally a very wonderful vacation because we went during Holidays.
For people like me who do not have much resources and luxury to travel frequently can only have a long vacation once every two or three years. It is because we have to plan and organize the traveling and itineraries. Most importantly, we have to save a big sum of money to cover all the vacation expenses including air fares, tickets, hotel accommodations, food, resort bookings, and tours.
Spending time with our families back home is always a wonderful thing. And during our vacation, we took my parents, siblings, and the kids to a beach resort for some relaxation time. We also visited them in my hometown and had lunches and dinners with them. Since we were there on Holidays, we threw a small Christmas party for the kids at my parents’ place. It was such a memorable party because that was the very first time in years. Everyone was very happy.
It’s great to see happy faces especially on Holidays. Traveling on holidays and vacationing can be very expensive but having enough time saving money, everything is hassle-free. So if you are planning a vacation in the near future, start saving money now.
Holidays abroad are all about trying new experiences. Whilst you may try to convince yourself that lazing on the beach with a drink in hand is a new experience, the chances are you have already done this so it is a good idea to get up and try something new, something especially true if you happen to be on a holiday to the wonderful island of Crete. Stuck for ideas? Then take a look at our three suggestions below.
Learn to Scuba Dive
Thanks to its tranquil, warm waters and numerous dive sites, Crete is the ideal place to learn how to dive. Look out for centres who offer PADI diving courses to ensure you get the best tuition and that you leave with a qualification that you can use anywhere in the world. Head to Malia, Agia Pelagia or Amoudara for the most popular dive centres. Water temperatures are at their warmest in the summer months so make sure you stick to these times unless you want to learn in the cold!
Sample Delightful Local Fish
Thanks largely to overfishing, buying seafood in most restaurants is rather on the expensive side in Crete, however as you are on holiday it makes sense to splash out for one night at least. And if you are going to splash out, then you had better head to the best fish restaurant on the island – known as the Waves on the Rocks, which is run by fisherman Theodoris Falelakis. Not only do you have the opportunity to enjoy some of the best and freshest fish on the island, but you can also stay in one of the five rooms upstairs above the restaurant.
Hike a Gorge
Crete is home to the longest and without doubt the most beautiful gorge in the whole of Europe, with the best thing being that you can actually hike through it and experience the best of Crete’s natural wildlife and scenery. The hike is 11km long and when undertaken on a pleasant spring or autumn day is a wonderful experience. You can hike in the summer too; just remember that it can get hot so take plenty of water with you. You will travel through the White Mountains as well as numerous settlements and you may even catch a glimpse of the wild goats which live along the route too.
